Sincerity

Spare me not the truth by fearing to offend;
this is my request to you, beloved friend.
By the masquerades and shrouded lies,
the bond of kinship slowly withers and dies.
If something feels amiss, seek out why;
save the hearts from another broken goodbye.

Orange Scones with Chocolate/Berries

elanascones

One of my favourite desserts! It is both easy and fast to make and can be varied to accommodate vegans or just for the sake of variation. Also gluten-free. Original source: Elana’s Pantry. This is a modified version, based on my preferences, after many (successful!) experimentations.

Ingredients (serves 8 pieces):

  • 2 cups (200-300g) almond flour (avoid fat-reduced versions)
  • ¾ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup (about 100g) dark chocolate and/or dried berries (i.e. blueberries or cranberries)
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 ripe banana or 1 tablespoon chia or flaxseeds + 3 tablespoons water or 1 large egg
  • 3 tablespoons (in total) of honey, agave and/or maple syrup

The Dream

I longed for your presence,
so I dreamed that you were here.
For the briefest of moments,
I remembered that you are always here.
Your absence is the dream.

You are me and I am you,
divided so we can experience unification.
Night, and I am once again asleep,
the dawn dancing patiently on the edge.
Light and darkness falling in love once more.

Wake with me.

Humanity

Courage is not the absence of fear, strength of character is not the lack of temptation.
They are  always choices.

Whoever you were, whoever you are: you are not damned, nor are you beyond forgiveness.
This reconciliation is the challenge before us; much humbleness and compassion is required.

Beyond this awaits true humanity; the kingdom of Love.

Principles

Principles, from Latin: principia – that which comes first, is most important, is most necessary, chief, leading, foundation. The word clearly refers to that which is of prime importance and must come before anything else, however difficult it may be at times.

I feel that Martin Luther King Jr. summed up the concept best:

“Courage is an inner resolution to go forward despite obstacles.
Cowardice is submissive surrender to circumstances.
Courage breeds creativity; Cowardice represses fear and is mastered by it.

Cowardice asks the question, is it safe?
Expediency ask the question, is it politic?
Vanity asks the question, is it popular?

But, conscience ask the question, is it right? And there comes a time when we must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because it is right.”

Limbo

Stuck in a limbo, where to go?
If going nowhere, then how to know?

Do you hear the Clarion Call, that beckons you to look within?
To that dark place, where you see so much sin.

Dare, my friend, to enter the depths and leave the comfort of the shore.
Even if all that remains is death and dying a thousand times more.

For die to the past we still must, to be born anew.
Into Life, to that which is Free and True.

All that you experience is the journey of your soul.
Love will hold you every step, forever complete and whole.
